Mental Math - Adding 2 digit numbers together

Adding 2 digit numbers together can be challenging. One strategy is to estimate numbers when appropriate.

  • For example, you can think of 69 + 31 as 70 + 30...which equals 100!

Another strategy that works well is to add the ones together, then add the tens together. Add both and you have your answer.

  • For example, add 64 + 96. 4+6 is 10 and 60+90 is 150. 150+10 is 160!
